Virtual Student Requirements and Expectations

 

The Galena Virtual School operates within the Galena Unified School District 499 and is subject to all policies and procedures as approved by the USD 499 Board of Education. Enrollment and/or continued enrollment in the program is contingent upon approval from the Galena High School Administration and failure to meet requirements could result in dismissal from the program.

 

Student Requirements

  • Kansas resident
  • Upcoming 9th – 12th graders or Adults
  • Applications received and $25 fee paid (9th – 12th graders must also submit enrollment form)
  • Attend one orientation and two formal conferences with the staff, parents/guardians, and students each year
  • 9th – 12th graders have two mandatory, scheduled attendance days during the school year (Dates will be assigned at orientation)
  • 9th – 12th graders will complete an Individual Plan of Study (IPS) and take state assessments
  • 9th – 12th graders must complete a minimum of 25 hours of coursework AND 50 activities per week
  • Adults are recommended to complete at least one course per month and six credits per year
  • Students are asked to check their email regularly
  • Students must notify school staff in the event of extended sickness or absence
  • Virtual students will return their iPad at the end of school in May and have the option to check it out for the summer
  • Follow all rules and guidelines laid out in the Galena Virtual School Handbook
