Virtual school is not for everyone; therefore, it is important to determine whether a student is well equipped to be a virtual learner. The demands of virtual school meet or exceed those of traditional courses, and students should plan to spend 5-6 hours each day on virtual courses. Here are some characteristics of successful online learners:
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to maintain a schedule
- Effective electronic communication skills
- Strong independent student habits and note taking skills
- Self-motivation
- Academic readiness
- A desire to acquire knowledge to fulfill educational and career goals
- Must be technologically proficient
If you possess these characteristics, then Galena Virtual School may be for you! Please consider filling out a New Student Enrollment form if this is your first time with us, or indicating your interest in Galena Virtual School on your Returning Student Registration for the 2025-2026 school year when enrollment forms become available.
All Galena Virtual School (GVS) applications are evaluated before your enrollment interview is scheduled. GVS placement is determined on a case-by-case basis and is a team decision consisting of the virtual school director, facilitator, counselor, high school administration, parents, and the student.
